Where to get a configuration

VPN Guard provides no servers and no configurations. This page explains what a configuration is and the kinds of places one comes from. It names no provider and recommends none.

What a config is

A WireGuard configuration is a short text file. It holds your private key, the address your device takes inside the tunnel, and the server to reach. VPN Guard reads that file and connects — it never creates one for you.

From a provider you already use

Many VPN providers let you download a WireGuard configuration from your account area, often under a name like "manual setup" or "WireGuard config". VPN Guard sells no service and recommends no provider.

From a server you run

If you have a virtual server anywhere, you can install WireGuard on it and generate a configuration for this device. This gives you a tunnel nobody else shares.

From your own router

Some home routers can act as a WireGuard server and export a configuration for a phone. That lets you reach your home network, and use its connection, while you are away.

Treat it like a password

A configuration contains a private key. Anyone who has it can connect as you. Import it directly rather than emailing it to yourself, and when you share a config with someone else, strip the private key first.
